The work, catalogued as 03 · B, is a purple field split open around an eye, with a small pile of marbles kept where the light gets in. Staff noticed it was missing on Tuesday morning, when the collector who bought its twin, 03 · A, arrived to pick it up and found one painting, one nail, and a very clean rectangle of wall.

The witness
One person was in the gallery at the time: a local man, who is fine. He saw everything. He has agreed to tell us what he saw on one condition, which he wrote on a napkin and slid across the table: mango drink. not a small one.
